Summer is the time of year when many families take vacations. The kids are out of school and it’s a perfect opportunity to spend more time together. Pretty soon, a lot of us will be packing up to travel the world, go to the beach, visit attractions, or head to the closest amusement park. But, some of us may not have the time or opportunity to travel, or maybe just don’t like the hassle involved with traveling. Some people have been choosing stay home and have a staycation instead. If you’re new to staycationing, you’re probably wondering what the heck it means. A staycation is a vacation spent at or near home, doing fun activities or visiting local attractions.
Now that you know what it means, here are four great staycation ideas for summer:
- Visit a local museum or park. Chances are there are several museums or parks close to home that you probably haven’t been to. Even if you have, it might be fun to make a second trip and see more of what it has to offer. There are many national parks out there, as well as the local parks. It’s always fun to see these types of places through the eyes of kids.
- Camp out at home. You can do this one in the backyard or inside the house. There’s nothing more fun than popping up a tent in your living room and spending the evening telling spooky ghost stories while eating S’mores. Make camping whatever you want it to be – gaze up at the stars from your backyard or roast marshmallows over the fireplace in the living room. Camping can be a lot of fun with family, especially when you ditch your technology and pretend you’re “roughing it.”
- Take a break from your technology. Ugh, I know this one is hard, but sometimes you just need to put down the phone and step away from the TV. Technology is great but sometimes I feel so overloaded and “connected” to everything and everyone. It can really start to wear a person down. Taking a break from technology, even if it’s just for a weekend, can have a huge impact on your well-being. You’ll come back feeling refreshed.
- Create a home spa day. Gather all the supplies you need for home facials, foot soaks, and body scrubs because a home spa day can be just as good as a day out at a regular spa. In fact, it might be even better because you get to call all the shots and do everything just how you want. You can do this with your family, or invite your friends over to veg out on your favorite foods and movies, or just hang out and talk while you spa day it up!
Now that you have these four great staycation ideas for summer, you’re prepared to start planning your summer. You don’t have to fly far away or spend a lot of money to have a great time this summer. Whatever the reason you choose to staycation, you can make the most of it, starting with these ideas.
What are your plans for the summer? Will you be traveling or staycationing?
