Even though it’s early December, there’s still plenty of time to give back to those less fortunate. Not only is it a great way to help those in need, it teaches our kids valuable lessons in being grateful for what they have, giving back to those who don’t have as much as them, and helping others.
If you’re looking for ways to give back, here are four for you to choose from:
- Donating Things – Every year in the fall, we pull old toys, clothes, shoes, etc. so we can donate them. The way we figure it, we’ll be getting new things as Christmas presents, and doing this helps make room and help others. This is actually a good idea that we practice year round, so we don’t get bogged down in too much stuff. We usually give to COTS, the Goodwill, and the Salvation Army.
- Volunteering Your Time – If you find yourself with some free time this holiday season, you and your family can volunteer to serve meals at soup kitchens, with Meals on Wheels, or at other shelters in your city or town.
- Donating Money – There are many organizations, like COTS, the Goodwill, and the Salvation Army, that can use monetary donations during the holiday season and beyond. salvation army.
- Adopt-a-Family – A great way to reach out to families directly during the holiday season is participating in “Adopt-a-Family” programs. We and my extended family have done this for the past several Christmases and I’ve also done it through work.
